Neil Fisher in The Times: “Here was a truly searching performance of the First Symphony, alive with flickering drama, fleet-footed yet darkly powerful.”
Tim Ashley in The Guardian: “With the expanded LPO squashed together on the platform, meanwhile, Dialoge looked almost as extraordinary as it sounded. Despite its vastness, it’s a ravishingly contoured piece, and striking in its beauty. Aimard and Stefanovich played with supreme lucidity, while Jurowski conducted with great authority and finesse…..
The closing work was Brahms’s First Symphony. The first two movements were electric. Jurowski relaxed the tension too much in the allegretto, however, and the finale lacked fire: a fine interpretation in the making perhaps, but not fully finished as yet.”
